Kurt Morsink,Costa Rica and national team rumors

I was able to stop Kurt for a moment and ask him about the stories I had heard that he might be called up for Costa Rica. You can read more at Morsink on Costa Rica radar.

Here is Kurt's response:

Weekly Interview #4 - Kevin Souter

The winner of the fan voting to be interviewed this week was Kevin Souter. He was one of the players selected form the open tryouts to come work with the team. His play in practice earned him a spot on the team.

The results of the voting:
Souter - 18
Morsink - 9
Arnaud - 12

He was the overwhelming vote getter at Down The Byline

If Souter had not been injured this season I think he may have already played some minutes in a MLS game. He would have definately had more time with the reserve team.

Usually I catch most of the players right after practice as they are walking to the locker room. With Kevin, I waited another 20 minutes or so. Even with the weather at practice being a little cool and wet, Souter, Kraus, Pardo and Hartman stayed and practiced more.

Hercules Gomez is a Kansas City Wizard

As announced yesterday, the Kansas City Wizards acquired Hercules Gomez in a trade with Colorado. KC sent some draft picks and allocation money to Colorado in exchange for Hercules.

Today at the weekly press conference, he was officially introduced by Coach Onalfo. Gomez will wear the number 21 for Kansas City. It is expected that he will be on the bench this weekend in Houston and will likely see some playing time.

Interview Poll #4

Mike of Down The Byline and I are continuing the weekly interview poll. We will setup interviews with a player of your choice (if possible). We have selected players that we think you may want to hear interviewed. The selection was based upon their performance in the last game, other newsworthiness and the probability that I can get them to stop for a few minutes to talk.

Cast your vote and leave a comment with a question you would like to ask the player. We will of course ask additional questions if time permits. Go to the poll on the side of this blog and vote for who you want interviewed. You can also vote at Down The Byline and both votes count. One of the few times you can vote more than once. Leave questions in the comments to this post and at the post on Down The Byline. Let us know if it is a player specific question or a general question to any player. Please be reasonably polite.
This week the players are:

Kevin Souter - Made the bench for the first time
Kurt Morsink - In the starting lineup again
Davy Arnaud - Goal Scorer

Jimmy Conrad Interview

First up - I need to apologize for not getting this up earlier. Last week my daughter got sick and we were keeping up with her when the rest of the family ended up not feeling so good either.

When I added up the votes from Down the Byline and here, Josh Wolff had the most votes to be interviewed. So I headed down to practice on Thursday, the only day I could last week to talk to Josh. Had several questions lined up in my head to be ready.

When I got there, the players who I would describe as potential starters and likely subs were playing soccer tennis. You can see all the shots from that day here.

I think these were the teams:
Coach Onolfo - Vermes
Marinelli - Lopez
Arnaud - Jewsbury
Zavagnin - Conrad
Hohlbein - Marquess
Harrington - Morsink

The final came down to a match between the defending champions (Arnaud and Jewsbury) and the wily veterans (Zavagnin and Conrad). Jimmy and Kerry got out to a 3 point lead but the champs tied it up. The challengers were able to get to game point but could not hold off Davy and Jack's eventual victory. While most of the players seemed to have fun throughout, some taking it a little more seriously than others, Davy remained serious all the way. You could see he did not want to lose, not even a fun game at practice.

Jimmy doing a happy dance...

Davy can not believe he is losing!!!

Fox 4 movie critic Shawn Edwards intervews Lance Watson for documentary about sport movies. It seems Lance is the movie expert, well at least sports movies.

Anyway, back to the interview. As many of you know now, there was a new baby being expected that day and Josh was not at practice. So I defaulted to the next guy in the voting. Jimmy Conrad can always be an interesting interview.

After Jimmy's comment about Josh, I had to pull up a picture of him. I can see what he is talking about.
