Kansas City Wizards 4 - 1 Kansas City Brass

You can check out the write up by Mike on Down the Byline or by Kyle at Hillcrest Road for more detail but I wanted to post a couple observations and a few photos... I am not sure who the keeper was for the Brass in the first half but he did a good job. Yeah he gave up a goal but he was facing the Wizards first team (minus Wolff and Hirsig).

Here he blocks a shot by Gomez...

Deflects a low cross/shot...

And stones Claudio Lopez (wonder if that is the first time he blocked a World Cup player)

Of course Jimmy looks good even without sleeves...

The Brass keepers in the second half had a tougher time...

When you are a goalie, you hate to see the ball from that angle...

Hirsig helped the second team dominate in the second half...

Morsink goes high for a header...

Kraus was playing right back for the second team in this scrimmage. He did get forward a bit though. Here he carried the ball up the wing...

Poked it across the box...

For a sliding Wolff...

To put it away for one of his two goals in the game...

I think Josh should be on Dancing with the Stars!!!

Could the person responsible for the Brass's web site please update it? Need some new photos maybe?

Roger Espinoza interview 5-27-2009

Roger was the second highest vote getter in the interview poll this week. He had been playing a half consistently lately for the Wizards and has been named to the Honduran National Team for their upcoming qualifiers.

We asked Roger:
To tell us about the training he has done with the Honduran National team
Does he think he will get some playing time this in this round
How he thinks Honduras will do in qualifying
Who on the US team will be the biggest problem for Honduras
With the Wizards he has been getting more playing time, how does he feel his career is going here
Does Coach help develop him towards being an International player
How did the team react in the last game with the two red cards
Last year getting his two red cards, did that give him a bad reputation?

Michael Kraus interview 05-27-2009

Michael was the vote winner on the interview poll. We stopped him after the scrimmage with the Brass yesterday.

We asked Michael:
What does he need to do to be a starter
With the red cards last week does he think he stands a better chance to be in the lineup
He played right back in practice, does your versatility allow coach to put you on the field more
What is his best position
With forwards like Wolff and Lopez, how does he get the experience from them
Are they coaches on the field as well
Who is the more vocal on the field
Do you do that for the younger players as well

More images from the Wizards/Chivas game...

It was Dog's Night Out at the Wizards and there were numerous canines watching the game...

The yellow team was not very popular by the end of the game...

Captain Conrad leading his team onto the field...

Kevin Hartman with bowed head during the National Anthem...

The Cauldron was in good form that night. I was all around the field and could clearly hear them everywhere...

One of the smaller flag waivers...

Coach Onalfo watching the game, he almost never sat down the entire time...

Former Wizard Sasha Victorine, I would recognize that profile anywhere. At least he did not score this time...

Should have been in the other post with game images. Just liked the face on Roger Espinoza as Jewsbury and Marsch fly for the ball...

The Cauldron with the sun behind them...

More dogs watching the game...

Not Zach Thornton's best side...

Maybe it was...

Roger Espinoza

Abe Thompson wondering if he will get into the game...

One of the less pretty fans...

Ditto...

I knew Jimmy Conrad inspired kids and makes women swoon but I did not know he had this effect on dogs as well...

I was on the wrong end of lot of shots...

The stands were full...

Kansaas City Wizards 1 - 1 Chivas USA

You can read Mike's write up on the game or get the official Hillcrest Road post. I just wanted to post some images from the game.

Lance Watson taking his position on the near post while Kevin Hartman watches the corner...

Santiago Hirsig blocking shot by Jessie Marsch...

Jimmy Conrad watches Mariano Trujillo's shot towards Kevin Hartman...

Kevin Hartman after making a save (not on the shot above)...

Claudio Lopez tracking back to defend on Trujillo...

Matt Besler and Jimmy Conrad shepherd a ball across the end line...

Josh Wolff breaking in on goal...

Coach Onalfo not looking happy as he leaves the field. Possibly contemplating whether another fine for comments about referees would be worth it...

I will do another post of non-game images shortly...

2009 interview poll - Week 9

First of all, thanks to Mike over at Down the Byline for getting the interview and posting last week. I was out of town visiting the fabulous Mouse mecca in Florida. It rained the whole time, more sun and warmth in Kansas City than there was in Orlando. Still had a great time, the parks were almost empty at times. Much thanks to Kathie for getting it arranged so well.

Back to business, who should we interview this week?
Roger Espinoza - getting some starts for the Wizards and is being called up for Honduras
Aaron Hohlbein - Should we check in with Aaron to see how the center defender is doing
Michael Kraus - Consistent late sub and making the eighteen
Kurt Morsink - Regular on the bench, will he be on the field since the Wizards will be a little shorthanded

Remember you can vote here and over at Down the Byline and both votes will count.
