Peter Vermes interview 06-26-2009

Talked to the Kansas City Wizards Technical Director after practice about the National team. I lost a longer piece of the interview due to issues with the video camera.

I have an audio interview with Peter from late last week that I will post later this weekend as well. It is only a little dated.

Tear Down that Wall !!

A Milestone today. The last remaining wall of the old Bannister Mall came down this morning. It did not take long as you can probably tell from the photos. After everything was down I talked to the only bystander watching. He was one of the iron workers who helped build the mall. Hypermart and the other building were built by him as well. I thought it might be bittersweet for him to watch his work come down but he is really excited to see the development there.

The last wall standing...

But not much longer...

Snip the last support...

The side starts to go...

Really not much left...

Just some dust...

Move the beams out of the way...

And the last bit starts to go...

Going...

Gone!!!

No more walls standing...

The only thing left...

More photos...

The next step is to do some more clean up. They will then start breaking up the pad and the in-ground walls. The estimate I heard is that it will be about a month before that starts and it will take a couple months to complete.

Atlas game supporters

Fans of any Mexican League team came to support Atlas...

Mexican flags and Mexican league jerseys...

Were on both sides of the stadium. Of course with supporters from so many teams there was no unity in chanting or support...

The Cauldron traveled well and had a couple extra members from St. Louis...

The Wizards fans were much more organized...

Most of the stadium was well filled but the heat took a toll on people and attendance...

Kansas City Wizards 0 - 0 FC Atlas

Aaron Hohlbein getting knocked down...

And injuring his elbow...

Josh Wolff fights through a couple defenders to break in on goal...

But the last defender recovers and take him down. At the time I thought this should have been a penalty, now not so sure...

Josh tumbles...

Showing the goalie his best side?

Might as well get up...

Josh Wolff manages to not get taken out again...

Atlas goalie in mid-air...

Abe Thompson being tackled...

Jack Jewsbury tackled from behind...

Roger Espinoza steps on player who slides underneath him and receives a...

Red Card.
