Game day reading - 10/10/09

Go read Gooch's Wizards stadium plan: What's the big idea?

I can back up a lot of what Gooch has to say. I have not talked to Robb (always too busy for me) but everyone else I have talked to has been racking their brains to come up with the best stadium and best experience they can. Will we like every idea, probably not. But I am sure giving them credit for trying. If half of the ideas I have heard make it in to the finished stadium, we will like it.

Next go take Nick Sloan's poll:

Do you feel the new Wizards/Cerner Development at Village West will be good for Wyandotte County?

As mentioned before, Drew Carey is planning on donating a ton of money to the Livestrong Foundation, you can read the back story at Drew's blog.

Read In Memory of Mooch and see the photo of the Wizards previous coach as well.

KC Confidential talking about being at last weeks Chiefs game/debacle: Quiz yourself, “Am I at a Wizards soccer game?” This question occurred to me at last Sunday’s futile contest against the New York Giants, when I couldn’t help but notice a group of percussion enthusiasts repeatedly banging away from their end-zone seats. Just stop it. I’m not paying $78 a ticket to be annoyed by anything beyond what’s happening on the field.

My response:
1. Easy to tell you are not at a Wizards game, the Wizards win once in a while

2. $78 a ticket? wow...

All a Twitter...

Okay, so I followed everyone's lead and started using Twitter. HillcrestRoad does it, Downthebyline does it, even Robb Heineman has started. Robb's "zolie goalie!!!" tweet after Zoltán's goal was an instant classic...

I will Tweet blog updates but I will also Tweet stuff that I would not take time to write a post about. Observations from practice, player comments, that sort of thing. I doubt that I will be as funny as Robb but you can follow me at TheBackpost.

Speaking of Twitter and humor, check out Drew Carey's bid to buy the Twitter name @drew. The current owner of that name put it up for auction to raise money for LIVESTRONG. Well Drew Carey initially bid 25K for it (which was well above any other bids) but later said he would up that bid to $100,000 if he got a 100,000 followers at DrewFromTV by Nov 9th. He has pretty rapidly jumped up from a few thousand to over 67,000 now. I started following in the 41,000s.

Well, the whole thing has taken on a life of it's own and Drew now says he will go up to a million bucks for a million followers by the end of the year. He will even pro-rate it to the number of followers. If you are a Twitter user, start following Drew. If you are nota twitter user, start. It will help a good cause and he is funny so it is a double win.

Support your local Soccer Stadium!!!

Recently, Robb Heineman asked Wizards fans to contact Kansas officials to lend their voice in support of the Wizards Stadium. A fan found these addresses and posted in the thread on Big Soccer. If you want the Wizards to have a stadium built, write them!!! If you love soccer, write them. Even if you just want to support the city in keeping and building for the future, then write an email of support.

While I am still disappointed that the stadium will not be built at the Three Trails site, I am fully behind getting this accomplished at the Legends. Not only am I fully behind it, but I am asking everyone to send some quick emails in support. Go!!! Email!!!!
