Steel signing ceremony

Prior to the game against Colorado last week, the Wizards held a steel signing ceremony for Wizards season ticket holders. While it was ceremonial, this steel girder will be used in the stadium.

Inside the Wizards stadium construction photos

Last week I was able to go onto the Wizards Stadium construction site and get a few photos. I am a little slow getting these posted but thought people would like to see them.

If I understood correctly, at the time I was there the construction was off by only 1/8 of an inch from end to end. That is some accurate building. They were a little under a day behind schedule on that day but it was also right after all those thunderstorms we had. The site was still quite damp as you can see in some of the photos when I was there. I have heard they are back on schedule already but have not confirmed that.

This is looking down into the area behind/underneath the west stands from the pavilion area. The opening in the wall in the center of the photo in the exit from the locker room area onto the field.

This view is from the end of the Cauldron stand towards the west stands and locker rooms. The opening in this photo is the northwest vomitorium. The concrete and dirt/rock in this photo is the slope of the west stand.

Looking out from the south side of the locker room towards the south stand area. The flat rock area in the center of the photo is where the stage will be and is close to the actual level of the stage.

Inside the Wizards locker room is a huge hrotherapy bath. I've seen smaller swimming pools...

Brandon Valdez, Project Superintendent, Turner - Brandon was gracious enough to escort me all around the site answering a million questions. Thank you, Rory and everyone else I talked to that day...

Roger has started at left back this year instead of left mid where we were used to seeing him last year. So far it has been a successful move. Roger has played well partnering with with Ryan Smith on the left. Roger is in the pool for Honduras and will stand a good chance of being called up for the World Cup this summer.

Wizards host Rapids tonight

The Wizards host the Colorado Rapids in an Open Cup qualifier at 7:30 tonight at UMKC. It will likely see the debut of Sunil Chhetri for the Wizards and Claudio Lopez for the Rapids. Chhetri was just officially added to the the Wizards roster when they finally received the International Transfer Card. Claudio Lopez is now available for Colorado after receiving his P1 Visa.

This will be the first meaningful game for Chhetri with the Wizards. He previously played in friendlies against University of Tulsa and the University of Evansville. He scored once against Tulsa and a hat trick in the Evansville game.

Sunil scoring against Tulsa...

Sunil moving to shoot against Evansville...

Chhetri has demonstrated a nose for goal and a fantastic finishing ability in the friendlies and practices so far but the larger, faster and more physical players on Colorado will be a harder test for him.

Claudio will be facing his former team for the first time and may not recognize it will all the new players Kansas City brought in since Lopez was here last fall. Claudio has just came into camp so probably is not 90 minute game fit so it will be interesting to see how long he plays.

I will miss seeing Claudio walk onto the field with his son...
