William Jewell soccer interviews

I have seen William Jewell play several times over the last few years and have been impressed. Both the men's and women's Cardinals normally play a controlled, possession type game and give all appearances of being well coached teams.

They have been having a very good season this year.

Coach Cissell talking talking to his men's team before they scrimmage.

I talked with Coach Cissell and he suggested a few players to interview. We wanted to focus on players who have excelled but not gotten as much attention as they may have deserved. At the time of the interview the Men were 13-0 and the Women were 10-1-1. Since I interviewed them the Men lost and the Women won at Missouri Valley.

Mallory Malone -a standout sophomore midfielder...

Jamie Skahan - an amazing senior left back

Brett Lewis - moved from leading the league in goals to the midfield for the team

Peter Nechvatal - center mid that has really helped shut down the opponents offense

Coach Cissell - an amazing record at Jewell since he took over.

While all teams talk about being family and playing for each other, Coach Cissell really has his teams believing and living it.

I also need to mention associate head coach Jefferson Roblee. All the players spoke well of both coaches. Roblee's brother is the head women's coach at Benedictine College so they take a little extra pleasure in winning that rivalry.

A few photos from practice

I have been wanting to cover more college soccer this year and I am finally doing it. Are there any other teams that really need some extra coverage?

Comets: Fan Fest 2010

The Missouri Comets held a Fan Fest at the Independence Events Center on Saturday. The team had a light scrimmage (the turf is not attached and the glass is not installed everywhere yet). There were hundreds (500 or so) of fans and quite a few season and single game tickets sold.

The new uniforms were unveiled. While the new Comets uniforms from Nike are a little plain, they obviously leave room for a sponsor or a larger logo if needed.

Matt Iverson wearing the Blue home uniform. I think the word Comets underneath the logo will not be blue on the final uniform.
